July 30 - August 1, in Orlando, Florida
The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association will be hosting the 34th Annual Honorable Elizabeth A. Kovachevich National Seminar on Federal Sentencing, July 30-August 1, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. The Seminar will be held at the Drury Plaza Hotel-Disney SpringsĀ® Area, which is a short walk to Disney SpringsĀ®.
I have had the pleasure to speak at the seminar many times over the years, and I will be on a plenary panel this year covering recent events in federal sentencing law and policy with Parker D. Anderson, Chief United States Probation Officer, Middle District of Florida, Cherrelle Herbert, National Sentencing Resource Counsel for the Federal Public & Community Defenders, and Trevor Parkes, Counsel & Project Director of the First Step Act Resource Center of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The panel will be moderated by James Felman of the law firm, Kynes, Markman & Felman, PA of Tampa.
Other panels at the seminar will examine how judges see the sentencing process (with four federal judges from across the country), mental disabilities at sentencing, sentencing in drug cases, trauma informed care and sentencing mitigation, sentencing in immigration cases, and lots more. Prosecutors, defense lawyers, judges, probation officers, academics, and other experts will attend and speak at the seminar.
